I headed back out to SDRC for some indoor racing with my buddies. I put some old tires on my car to use up while learning the layout. This layout was much more fun to drive and race on compared to the last one!
I ran some 60mm Dirt Webs in round 1, which were fine in practice, but loose for qualifying. I think the clay was drying out? I blew out crashing multiple times :(
In round 2 I crashed less and went a lap faster, after switching my tires to some old 60mm electrons and driving more conservative. My run wasn't fast enough though to make the A main though and I would end up the BQ?!
For the B main I put on some brand new 2.2" electrons with 0 runs on them. Normally I would put a few runs on them before racing them. Instead I soaked them in traction compound and hoped for the best!
They were a little loose until the excess tire sauce burned off. I also ran my car for the entire warmup period and did some doughnuts to break in the tires as much as possible before the race. They were a little loose during the 1st minute of the race, but felt better and better as the race went on. A few mistakes dropped me to 2nd, but that was good enough to bump to the A main!
By the end of the B main my tires were coming in nicely! I charged a fresh pack for the A. Starting last, I took off slow on the tone and looked for crashes to take advantage of. I was able to move up to mid pack in the first few minutes of the race. Had a good battle going for 5th during the middle of the race with clean racing :). A crash on the last lap allowed me to move up to 4th :). My fast lap is also down to 19.3!
