SDRC Club Racing, 7/27/13

I raced Mod SC, running a LRP X11 8.5, but my lap times and race results are still slower than my stock truck :(

My broken glued plastic bellcrank, which I broke in practice after racing was over. 

The misting system watering the track after it was closed for the day. You can't see the drivers stand on the opposite side of the track!

My truck handled fine during practice, but when racing started, it felt loose, and it was difficult to get on the power. I had to tip toe around the track. 

Changes for next weekend:
1.6 rate rear springs
Throttle curve #2
0 washers on rear inner ball studs
Additional vent holes in body

Finisher turnbuckles

Hot Rod Hobbies Off-Road Shootout this weekend!

I ran the HRH Shootout in 2009 and 2010.  It is a fun race to attend, and I was able to make the A Main for Stock Truck in 2010.  But, I don't run this race anymore, because of the intense heat!  The pic below is from the race in 2009, and it's always over 100°F the week of the race.

Pro 2!

I've decided to put an old 10.5 motor in my SC10 to race Mod SC (Pro 2). I will also put in some boost, so it's fast on the top end, since I'm limited to a 10.5, as I'm still using my Tekin RS ESC. I'm doing this just to race my friend as he's putting in an 8.5 motor to replace the 13.5 he has been running. Hopefully I can beat him this weekend!

2013 Top Gun Shootout, Mains

In Buggy, I won the D Main, bumping into the C, where I finished 8th. Next up was the Truck B main. I popped a rear ball cup during warm up and was able to get it back on with about 45 seconds left.  I was able to get 2nd in the B, bumping into the A!

For the triple A main in Truck, I finished 10th (popping the same ball cup again), 5th (on the last lap!), and 6th. I placed 7th overall. In SC I finished 8th, 5th, and 6th, placing 7th overall.

After a frustrating day of qualifying, main event day turned out much better, as I had nothing to lose starting in the back, and every spot I gained was a bonus.

2013 Top Gun Shootout, Qualifying

So qualifying is over, and it's been a day I'd rather forget. In fact, the experience has changed my mind about running big races for the foreseeable future.  I'll probably just stick with club racing for now. 

Almost every qualifier I was run over, or get caught up in somebody else's wreck.  Thanks for putting 11-12 cars in my buggy and truck heats.  My best run of the day came in round 3 of truck after the resort and more reasonable heat with 8 trucks. 

Here are my races from a crappy day of qualifying. 










I ended up qualifying 1st in the Buggy D main, 2nd in the Truck B main, and 8th in the SC A main. At least I made one A main and have a good chance to bump into the truck one.
