My friend Steve invited me to go parking lot racing with him at the Discount Hobby Warehouse in San Marcos. The day started out very wet! So we delayed the start an hour to let the pavement dry out!
Pit area setup on damp pavement.
My view for the day.
The track is open for practice!
Steve!
B5m lowered to about 15mm ride height.
Required numbers for hand counting! I haven't been hand counted since the early 90s!
Miss you Rally! :(
No traditional race results were available and I really didn't care. I had a good time racing for fun! I TQd and won each race, with around 20-21 laps completed. I still took video of all my races though!
In heat 1 I finished in 3rd with a 15:01, fast lap of 18.814, average lap of 20.109, and consistency of 90.79%. I was running fairly new Dirt Web fronts with worn in Ellipse rears and my car pushed going into turns and didn't rotate.
In heat 2 I finished in 3rd again with a faster 16:14, fast lap of 18.488, average lap of 19.670, and consistency of 93.95%. This time I ran my new Raw Speed Stage 2/Radar tires. My car rotated a bit too fast during warm up, so right before the start I turned my steering dual rate to 90%, which was probably too much. It turned in and rotated good for the tight turns, but I wanted more steering in the bigger sweeping corners.
In the A Main I finished in 4th with a 15:09, fast lap of 18.189!, average lap of 20.162, and consistency of 83.71%. Again I get a terrible start to the race, getting punted on my lid in the first corner. Of course I get marshalled last and am now last. I blow out on my first lap and crash or get out of shape a few more times because I am so pissed. But on lap 3 I get everything right and turn my fastest lap ever on this layout, an 18.189! I can't do it again though, but at least I turn a few more mid 18's when there's no traffic is nearby. I pass 5th place on the last lap in the whoops, then crash, get stuck on the pipe, get off the pipe, then take out the leader, before making it back to line to claim 4th. I finish 1 spot behind my 3rd place start position, but I had a horrible start and race. If I had a clean start I might have been able to place in the top 3.
I decided to try out some Raw Speed tires as I've heard from other non-sponsored driver that they are fast. I went with Stage 2 4wd fronts and the new Radar rears, both in their White (Clay) compound.
Glue drying
Balancing the fronts
Done!
I run them in this direction (looking from the back).
I decided to rebuild the shocks on my EB410 since i couldn't remember the last time I did it and the shocks were collecting a bunch of dirt around the seal cap.
Fronts disassembled.
Dirty shock on left and cleaned one on right
I also changed the oil in the front diff from 20k to 15k. Hopefully I get more steering for faster corner speed?
In heat 1 I finished in 3rd with a 16:13, fast lap of 18.567, average lap of 19.564, and consistency of 95.82%.
In heat 2 I finished in 2nd with a 16:18, fast lap of 18.624, average lap of 19.882, and consistency of 91.70%
In the main I get a terrible start and end up with 2 24 second laps after 3 laps, getting caught up in other drivers mistakes. I ended up crashing 2 times on my own and 4 time because of another car. I finished in 8th with a 15:08, fast lap of 18.566, average lap of 20.278, and consistency of 89.50%
The event flyer for the 2020 Supercross Series is out! I can probably make all the rounds and plan to race 13.5 4wd Buggy, since this is the class I’ve been racing lately. Racing only one class will also help with my tires costs, since I plane to use a new set of tires for each race.
I was able to finish 2nd in the 40+ Buggy class in 2018! There's no 40+ Buggy class for 2020 though.
To get rid of the slight push I've been having with my 4wd, I decided to make a few setup changes. I decided to move the upper mount of the rear shocks out 1 position on the tower and increase the weight of the rear diff oil from 7k to 10k.. Hopefully these changes allow the car to rotate more in the corners, resulting in faster lap times.
Hanging my diff housing upside down to let the oil drip out.
After missing the 1st Saturday club race of 2020 due to being sick, I headed out to SDRC for my 1st race of 2020!
Stripped my center diff gear on my last practice run :(
The shop ran out of 81T center diff gears, so I had to get a used one from a fellow racer. Thanks Mike!
All fixed!
The paint on my wing started to chip :(
I think it's time for a new battery!
Ready for racing!
In Heat 1 I ended up crashing 2 times, but at least I didn't make any bobbles? I finished in 5th with a 15:00, fast lap of 18.452, average lap of 20.037, and consistency of 92.97%.
In Heat 2 I ended up crashing 2 times and made 1 bobble. I finished in 3rd with a 16:15, fast lap of 18.736, average lap of 19.692, and consistency of 96.52%.
For the Main I qualified 5th of 11. I ended up crashing 3 times, but didn't need to be marshaled and made 2 bobbles I finished in 4th with a 16:19, fast lap of 18.758, average lap of 19.877, and consistency of 94.85%.
Only 2 more club races until the 2020 Supercross Series starts on 01 February 2020! I'm planning to race 13.5 4wd and 17.5 Expert Stock Buggy this year.
